Abstract
The aim of the study was to determine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of Smart Phone Application Based Addiction Scale (SABAS). The study was conducted among people who work in Ankara Provincial Health Directorate. Total 413 people were participated to the study, more than half of the participants were female (66.3%), the mean age was 40.87±7.96 years (range, 23-63) years. The mean score of SABAS was 15.22±6.94 (range 6-36). The scores obtained from SABAS decreased with increasing age (r=0.163; p=0.001) and did not change according to gender (Z=0.982; p=0.332). According to the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) criteria, the size of the correlation coefficients and the correlation coefficients were correlated with the factor analysis (KMO=0.867, p<0.001). According to the factor analysis, one-dimensional structure of 6-item structure explained 58.6% of the total change in SABAS scores (loadings ranged from 0.68 to 0.79). The item-total correlation coefficients of the items in the scale ranged between 0.55-0.75. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was not significantly increased when any of the items were removed. The Cronbach alpha coefficient of the SABAS scale was 0.855. With the increase in SABAS scores, the NMP-Q score, the number of applications used on smartphones, the duration of having a smart phone, the duration of smartphone daily use and the frequency of controlling social media were increasing (p<o.o5 for each). According to the results of the study, the Turkish version of the SABAS scale is a very suitable scale for screening the risk of smart phone application-based addiction in adult individuals.
